Recently, the Downtown Development Board and the Office of Communications and Neighborhood Relations developed several different Downtown Orlando geofilters for the rising social media platform, Snapchat.
Geofilters are used at locations all over the world and for different large scale events to help define an area as a true destination. They are placed as a “filter” on a picture that is taken with the app and are small, creative ways to represent the surrounding area.
Two of the filters were approved by Snap Chat and can now be used by any Snap Chat user while in the Downtown Orlando area.
The Downtown Orlando filter features the Lake Eola Park fountain, one of Downtown’s signature locations and an internationally-known symbol. Downtown Orlando is known for being the economic driver of Central Florida, but it is also accentuated with beautiful lakes, public parks and recreational venues, providing residents an ideal place to live and raise a family. This geofilter is representative of the iconic Lake Eola Fountain that everyone has come to know and love.
The Lake Eola Park filter features a swan, the unofficial icon the park, which offers renting swan-shaped paddle boats, feeding the live swans inhabiting the park or just relaxing amid beautiful flower beds with a spectacular view of Orlando’s skyline.
We thought this was a fun, creative way to brand Downtown Orlando while engaging a younger, tech-savvy demographic that is often hard for local government to reach. Next on the list – Snap Chat filters for each of our nine Main Street districts!
