The Fall Fiesta in the Park is held annually during the second weekend in November. More than 150,000 residents and visitors to Orlando visit Lake Eola Park during this weekend to view and purchase arts and crafts from artists from across Central Florida.

Goals: Each year the City of Orlando’s Office of Communications and Neighborhood Relations graphics team updates the artwork that is used in the marketing and advertising of the event. Being a signature event from our office, I usually encourage the designer assigned to this project to do something fun and outside-the-box. Sondra, a young, talented UCF student who is working with us part-time, first drew the artwork in this poster by hand.

Once the sketching was complete, she scanned the design in as a 600dpi TIFF file, and traced the sketch in Adobe Illustrator as a vector so that the artwork could be scaled to any size needed. Inspired by the Spring Fiesta poster, she wanted to incorporate her drawings with some fun, artsy typography. She then incorporated several “trendy” fonts, drawing on the hand-drawn look to match her sketch. We worked together on creating the look she was envisioning, and the final product turned out great!

The completed design was used online on the City of Orlando’s website, Cox Media’s radio and event partner’s sites as well as all of the City’s and event partners social media platforms. Posters were also printed and distributed throughout the City.
