Graphics Supervisor/Graphic Designer: Jen Hiatt
Web Developer: Natalie Bednarz
Client: City of Orlando Office of the Mayor

This map was prepared to accompany the Mayor’s 2015 Budget Address using ArcGIS Online Story Maps. A relatively new tool for our office, Story Maps offered a way to visually show that the 2015/2016 budget includes funding for more than 100 projects focused on ensuring that Orlando remains a great place to live, work and raise a family.

Using GIS map layers, we sorted the projects into five categories: Transportation, Recreation, Streets and Stormwater, Wastewater and Parks. Then, using a Story Maps template, we developed the map to include photos for each project, as well as the corresponding details. The projects also only appear when their location is on the map, so if you were zooming in on your neighborhood, you would only see the projects in that map extant.

This project was certainly challenging (learning a new program on deadline), but Natalie and I were able to learn a lot, and will be able to implement this storytelling tool on other upcoming projects.
